The NIOSH Pocket Guide describes 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine and its salts as a gray-to-purple crystalline solid and identifies inhalation, skin absorption, ingestion, skin, and eye contact routes; reported effects include sensitization, dermatitis, neurologic and urinary symptoms, gastrointestinal upset, upper respiratory infection, a potential occupational carcinogen notation, and animal liver and bladder cancer.
