Silicosis is a disease caused by exposure to dusts containing crystalline silica. Prolonged inhalation of crystalline silica can cause the lung disease silicosis—a nodular fibrosis of the lungs that causes difficulty breathing. Sandblasting is among the high-risk occupations.
