Dust encountered in cement manufacturing, including free silica and iron-oxide dust documented in a NIOSH workplace evaluation.

Evidence

A NIOSH evaluation at a cement company measured free silica and iron-oxide dust and recommended protecting workers from unnecessary asbestos exposure; the report's workplace finding that measured concentrations were not considered toxic does not establish general safety for cement dust in other conditions.

Description · 1
Free silica and iron-oxide dust are not considered to be toxic at the concentrations measured at a cement company. Although air concentrations of asbestos were found to be below Federal Standards on a time weighted average basis, recommendations are made to protect workers from unnecessary exposure.
