Dust entry

Cattle-feedlot organic dust

Inhalable organic dust and endotoxin exposure in cattle feedlots and grain elevator or feed-mill work.

Airborne form

dust

The form describes what is suspended in air at the point of exposure. A material can produce more than one form, such as dust during handling and fume during heating.

Evidence

A NIOSH-indexed study measured dust and endotoxin exposure among cattle-feedlot and grain-elevator/feed-mill workers. It reported mean total dust exposure of 2.36 mg/m3 for feedlot workers and 3.46 mg/m3 for grain workers, airway obstruction in 12% and 8% respectively, and concluded that cattle-feedlot workers may be at risk for occupational airways disease.

Abstract · 1
Grain elevator workers are at risk for having respiratory symptoms and airway obstruction. ... Airway obstruction defined by GOLD criteria was noted in 12% of feedlot workers and 8% of grain elevator/feed mill workers. ... Cattle feedlot workers may also be at risk for developing occupational airways disease.
