Evidence

The NIOSH Pocket Guide describes nitric acid as a fuming liquid, identifies inhalation, ingestion, skin, and eye routes, and reports eye, skin, and mucous-membrane irritation, delayed pulmonary edema, pneumonitis, bronchitis, and dental erosion; the NIOSH REL is 2 ppm TWA with a 4 ppm short-term limit.

Exposure Routes inhalation, ingestion, skin and/or eye contact. Symptoms irritation eyes, skin, mucous membrane; delayed pulmonary edema, pneumonitis, bronchitis; dental erosion. Target Organs Eyes, skin, respiratory system, teeth.
