The NIOSH Pocket Guide describes pentachlorophenol as a colorless-to-white crystalline fungicide solid and identifies inhalation, skin absorption, ingestion, skin, and eye contact routes; reported effects include respiratory and mucous-membrane irritation, constitutional and gastrointestinal symptoms, breathing difficulty, chest pain, high fever, and dermatitis.

Physical Description Colorless to white, crystalline solid with a benzene-like odor. [fungicide] Exposure Routes inhalation, skin absorption, ingestion, skin and/or eye contact. Symptoms irritation eyes, nose, throat; sneezing, cough; lassitude (weakness, exhaustion), anorexia, weight loss; sweating; headache, dizziness; nausea, vomiting; dyspnea (breathing difficulty), chest pain; high fever; dermatitis.
