page 89 · C29: TRIMELLITIC ANHYDRIDE — Summary and conclusion · 1
A number of toxic syndromes which involve respiratory reactions have been identified in workers exposed to trimellitic anhydride dust or fume. The respiratory reactions include asthmatic symptoms, of either immediate or late onset, and rhinitis. In some individuals known to suffer from trimellitic anhydride-associated respiratory illness, exposure to very low airborne concentrations of the anhydride can provoke symptoms.

NIOSH reports that trimellitic anhydride exposure can cause eye, skin, nose, and respiratory irritation, pulmonary edema, respiratory sensitization, rhinitis, asthma, cough, wheezing, and breathing difficulty.
